Hi
To be honest I dont know of any team of securty guards other than may be those at Airports who have any major training in terrorisam other than what to look out for. Such as some one with a big overcoat on when its the hottest day of the summer ect.
But as I have said if some group was to attack the PB i would assume that the weapon(s) to be used would not be on there person as thay walked in, thay would either be allready hidden on the site somewhere and this would have probley been done by a memeber of staff who was working with the group. Or it would be thrown over the wall to them (not sure about chucking a bag full of high explosives over the wall mind).
And all though you can have your security as tight as possible its almost impossible to prevent such an attack from happeining once its started, so we would realy on the securty forces of the country to stop it before it got to that stage, something thay seem to be doing pritty well at this time.
So whay we are saying is if some disgruntled group was determind to attack the PB or any target and thay have managed to avoid detection by the securty forces, it dont matter how good or bad your security team is you will not stop the attack.
If you have one suicide bomber who indeed has the bomb strapped to him /her and thay were to get stopped at securty all thay would do is set off the device in the entrance building.
Unfortuenately in the times we live in unless we never leave the house where ever we go there is allways a risk that we could be involved in terrorist attack be it the local shopping center, theme park, gig, ect. as basicly any where a large group of people gather must be considered a potential target. Some are obviously more likely than others for example Alton Towers, Metro Center, Bluewater, and almost anywhere in a Major city.
But if we thought about this every time we went out we would just never leave the house, to be honest if I am going to the Metro Center (probley the most likly target in the area when I live) I am more worried about having an accident during the drive there than a terrorist attack once i arrive. I know which one is more likly to happen.

| Alot of this topic talks a bout the decline of Blackpool.
Indeed things are not as they used to be. But Blackpool Gazzet took the time(2 weeks ago) to speak to owners and managers of the Sandcastle, sealife, waxworks, tower, piers, zoo etc….. |
Hi Nip
Its not so much we are talking about the decline but rather how it was in the late 60’s to early 70’s (well in my case this is the era I am talking about). Its more about the shifting trends than decline, in the era we are discussing people used to spend a full weeks holiday in Blackpool, where as now allthough there are some people that still do have a full week in the town in the main I would think (i know there are people who own guest houses and hotels on the site who could give a more authorative insite into this), that its now midweek stays Mon - Fri and then weekends plus visitors.
I would think that Midweek out of the school holiday season its mainly older people and some familys, and in the school hoildays familys will be added to the mix with people who want to come to Blackpool and avoid the stags and hens and all that thay bring with them. With the weekend trade being mainly singles, young couples, and stags and hens. However as can be seen by the fact that Travelodge are about to open 2 new hotels in the town, there must still be demand for rooms or thay would not have spent the cash to in one case build a new hotel and in the other to completely referbish an old one.
On weekend the town can be as full and busy as it used to be at the weekend when we stayed, allthough the type of people who are there has changed since those times, as on a weekend its mainly stag and hen partys, works outings, in other words people whos main aim in the towm is to visit as many bars and clubs to get as drunk as possible over the weekend, wheres as in the 60’s it would be mainly familys there on a weeks holiday with some daytrippers.
The council are spending vast amounts of cash on Improvements to the town and sea front areas to make thease more attractive to familes and to improve the reputaion of the town. And this seems to have paid off this year with more people coming to the resort, and many of the attractions reporting much improved attendance figures, which is good news.
Some of this may be due to the credit crunch and the falling pound making holidays abroad much more expensave, towards the end of the season numbers may have also been affected by the increased cost of fuel, however all though the other factors are still here the falling cost of fuel here in the north east this morning petrol is now down to under the 90p mark admittedly only 89.9p but its still going the right way. If this trend continues with pound not being so strong holidays abroad will still work out expensave, so more people may choose to stay here in the UK or take a 2nd holiday at home, all of which is good news for Blackpool and all of its attractions.
To make it better the council I think still need to take steps to rid the town of the stags and hens so it can be once again a family resort, also thay need to move on developement of the Central car park area, I would like to see some sort of olyimpia (for those readers old enough to remember olympia) style attraction there, also I would love to see leasure parks, re-open olympia i am sure there wouldbe demand for such an indoor attraction in the town again. For those who dont know olympia was an indoor amusement park and was located in the Winter Gardens building you turned right when entering the building from the entrance that looks opposite Hounds Hill. But a modern version of this in a new building on the Central Carpark area would be a big asset to the town, i would like this attraction to focus on rides, side stalls, family eating places, family bars, video games, soft play areas, ect. but no fruit machines as there are allready many places where people can play thease in the town. Entrance should be free and both a wristband for unlimited riding should be on offer as well a token system for pay as you ride. Obviously a devleopement of this size would take a few years to get up and running, but Leisure Parks plans for an indoor crazy golf course for next year is a good move i have seen one such attraction in Great Yarmouth and it will add to the family attracitons the town has to offer especaly when the weather is not so good.
I think we have to agree that Blackpool has been in declaine with visitor numbers over the past several years but now it seems to be picking up again so the investment that has been made in the town is worth while, more is needed but at this time at least from the private sector is going to be hard to come by.
The other thing about Blackpool is why I call it the Marmite resort because you either love it or hate it there seems to no middle opinon of the town when you ask people what thay think of the place, I fall in the love it my other half is in the hate it camp (fortuantley she put up with the resort so I still get to visit at least 2 or 3 times in year).
Its on the up now and lets hope this upward trend can continue as others have said in this topic we will never get back to the way it was in the 60′ and 70’s but we can get back to Blackpool once again being the family resort of choice.
Regards

For those of you interested by PBB’s maze did you know that the original maze was once situated next to the Derby Racers? A lady on the paybooth there was known to add an extra 5p to the entrance fee..By all accounts she had a price sign all of her own - showing 45p instead of the official 40p - that she would put up when she felt the time was right!
I have never worked at the park but you would be a-mazed by what information people are willing to share with this nurse from St Helens!!
Also this from my website dating back 5 years: The Adrian Fisher Interview - He designed the Chinese Puzzle Maze. It’s a brief one page interview which helped get my website launched back then.

| A message to anybody who has the series
You can upload it to youtube and it does not break copyright law because you are not selling it. Plus the BBC upload their own stuff as well. Plus their are already clips of the documentary on there. And when you talk about copyright in regards to PBB when uploading videos of onride videos or offride videos this can be classed as copyright as well unless stated where it came from. So if you do have it please upload it to youtube as I would love to see it. Just state that it belongs to PBB or BBC |
Incorrect.
The BBC you tube channel came about by the BBC having to defend their legal right to maintain copyright, the only reason they upload to that site is to stem the increasing tide of pirated material that is held under their copyright.
its not ok to upload any copyrighted material (in this case BBC output) anyone found doing so will soon find themselves on the recieving end of the BBC legal department. as well as having the offending material removed (eventually)
you may well argue that much BBC content remains unchallenged on youtube, this isnt being ignored, and prosecutions are being sought (which is a lot harder after the offending material is removed)
Adding its "copyrighted to the BBC" without proper clearance and excessive royalty payments paid in advance, is just as illegal as you stealing a car
