Share ThisThis rush for building these units is not without reason. Apart from the many amenities they offer, the major factor driving the condo boom among investors and buyers is location, and architecture. Condos have seen a 33.3 percent rise in the last decade, and they now account for around 12.8 percent of the housing market.

| What actually was the Rainbow Wheel? I’ve seen pictures of it many a time but can’t quite think how it works |
By all accounts "it was an illusion ride..Passangers sat in cars which never left ground level. Illuminated scenes then passed by them as the wheel revolved and the cars rocked and rolled. It was eye catching but not very popular. Opened 1912 and closed in the 1930s when Emberton replanned the park."

1) Why did you leave?
2) If you think PBB security is that bad, why don’t you report it to someone right at the top? 3) Could you see Amanda personally? or is she impossible to get near, a bit like Robbie Williams - let’s say |
1) That’s more to do with me as a person. It was a stop gap whilst my other half was waiting to start work as a teacher. I have a degree in software engineering, and was starting another degree so needed time for that. I also discovered I had a serious knee injury which required me to not be trudging round for 12 - 16 hour stints.
2) I think it’s worse than you could possibly imagine, as do several other interested parties, not least friends of mine in the local police and trading standards (that’s another story for another day, though) - but again, you need to understand the hierarchy of the place before you understand just how unimportant the workers’ opinions are. So, the only thing it would have achieved at the time would have been certain unemployment, and now I’m out of there, it seems a moot point, and to put a selfish spin on it - someone else’s problem.
3) Not a chance. Her workforce don’t exist to her. They’re just a means to an end. I couldn’t possibly have enough time to tell you all the stories (some of which come from my first hand experience) of her attitude and lack of respect towards the people in that place making her the money she uses to laud over them. To put it bluntly, she really REALLY couldn’t care less about what one of her seasonal employees had to say about the area she considers herself the expert in.
Some of the above makes me sound almost bitter, reading back. It’s more a case of the fact the pleasure beach is the worst place I’ve ever had the misfortune to work at. The type of person I am means I’d do anything for a living - I don’t value myself as especially better than anyone else, but I think it’s fair to say that I think I can (and do) do better for myself, so I chose to.
I disagree with most of the practices there, I disagree with the way they treat their staff and I disagree with some things that went on I couldn’t possibly comment on with this being a public site no doubt read by those I refer to. But I can be a lot more pragmatic about it, and understand that it’s what works for them, and not for me.
| Quote: |
| I wouldn’t expect PBB security officers to be trained in how to deal with terrorism. |
Well, considering the day and age we live in, perhaps this should change. Should they have trained staff, with it being a high-profile public destination?
We have to look at economies of scale in order to find the answer. In other words, the question isn’t "should they" more the question of "Is it financially benefical for them to have trained staff in place, who would no doubt make the place safer, but increase costs".
(Assuming the training is paid for, or you’re paying an accredited professional more than the standard minimum wage to do a quite serious role. And where do the costs go? Do they take a hit on their profits? Do they increase admission to cover the cost?)
Does PBB value its customers safety to do the above? And does it consider it necessary to pay out the money to do so?
Make your own answer to that one ![]()

Hi Me and my other half also love London her a little more than me, the only thing I dont like about London is the pace especally on the tube, more so if your on there at peak times, something you cannot avoid if like us you like to take in a show or 2 when your there. the people just barge past on them long tunnels when you have to switch lines or are leaving at your station. Dont get me wrong any one who knows me knows I dont walk slow myself and like to get to where i am going as quick as possible but in London its just manic, ok I admit with most of the people who are doing this its commuters wanting to get home at the end of the day but it just so gets on my wick. But the city and all it has to offer i love except the London Eye i just cannot do it, its odd though I can go up Blackpool Tower no problems (cannot do the walk of faith and look down though), and I can go up in a light aircraft on a pleasure flight, but the Eye just could not do for some reason. Cliff C |
I agree! Whats up with these people? Walking along wired up to something and typing on their blackberries…and nobody speaks on the tube, everyone just reads their books or sits poker faced!

Hi everone at bppb guide.
I love the flat rides especially the ones on the South pier and the Central pier mainly the waltzers on both piers as well as the breakdance and the crazy frog.
I also love bling in the pleasure beach.
When i was at blackpool back in June i was talking to one of the ride ops and he told me that at the end of the season the breakdance will be sent back to the manufacturer to get refurbished. He also told me that the current waltzer on southpier is getting sold and a new waltzer will be replacing it.
I know that some of you members aready know about this.
If possible I was hoping that one of you could maybe take some photos of this happing please . That way i can see the changes for myself.
Looking forward to your replies. many thanks, spin ride lover.

I’d happily work for the Pleasure Beach in a management or executive position which at least matched my current salary and working conditions.
I’d certainly not be interested in a job as a ride operative or sales assistant, as it would cost too much in travel for me to do such a job there. Maybe if I was retired and lived in Blackpool it woudl be good for extra income though.

The topic was started, because I thought it would cause interesting debate, and it certainly has.
I am not going to lock it, because whats the point of that? But please, if you have nothing else to add to the debate, dont bother posting in here, only post if you think it’ll help the debate of the topic.
Cheers. ![]()

early season stated for my family at loudoun castle at the easter holidays it was absolutely baltic but a good out and the park was really busy.2nd trip was to grangemouths zetland parks 1 pound a ride night, absolutely heaving all night and great value for money.3rd trip was to m&ds strathclyde park,it wasnt very busy and i was surprised to see how run down and uncared for the park is getting(a painter is badly required for all the steel coaster).4th trip was back to loudoun castle at the end of the summer school holidays, the credit crunch was starting to bite and the park was noticably quiet but we all managed a good ride count as there were little queues.5th trip was end of season trip to bpb during the scottish october school week which was not the best of weather tues was heavy rain, wed was intermitent rain so we plumped for thursday which although sunny was cold and we were surprised how quiet the park was,no avalanche, ark or space invader, and breakdowns galore. We made the most of it but left feeling a little dissapointed that the scottish buisness doesnt seem to mean as much as it used to.Still not the end of season though as im hoping to go to edinburgh for the xmas celebrations and funfair in the next few weeks.Well this sums up a mixed season, what about everybody else!!!!
