A flaw in PBB security

the thing is that actully having security guards and scanners is enough to detier most people evan if there there or not you dont say alton has lack of security or LWV or drayton mannor so why are you complaining about the pleasure beaches which is way more obvious than any other park mainly to make familys feel safe therefore they will come back all about image

I have only visited Alton Towers 3 times, Drayton Manor 1 time and it was too long ago for me to remember whether they had security on the entrance or not. If it is true that security is bad at those two parks, then I agree it should be looked into. But I’m a frequent visitor to PBB and that is the park I care a lot about and because of that I started this thread.

You say that the PBB has security guards and a scanner (or should I say) 3 scanners on the entrances to the park. Well…be that as it may, any improvements which can be made, should be made, just to air on the side of caution.

The points I’ve made within this thread certainly highlight one flaw.

Does anyone remember the PBB tv documentory series??/

Having made a few phone calls and got a few answers to emails, it turned up the following.
A number of (unspecified) D3 VT copies were made after transmission, not PAL broadcast quality for redistribution for an overseas market, most probably NTSC transfers (unverified) The BBC archive wiped the original transmission tapes in june 2005, after it was considered no longer marketable, (these tapes then went on to be used for additional BBC output, most probably Eastenders at that time)(unverified but probably correct, many shows were wiped for additional EE output)
it has been repeated in the UK a total of 13 times on various networks, since its original broadcast 1998 to 2007, which leads to the assumption that a few if not all were the D3 copies, finding their way into cable and satelite programming ( 2 times incomplete, as a five episode run, with new commentary and new titles)(unverified channel)
A spanish version of the dub is held in the archive as is the original along with the 16mm archive material and additional 4672′ of VT ( PAL broadcast quality) footage which was deemed unsuitable for broadcast. (in other words out takes and cutting room floor filler material)

Superb pictures! I love London! If you are tired of London, you are tired of life… Very Happy

Hi

Me and my other half also love London her a little more than me, the only thing I dont like about London is the pace especally on the tube, more so if your on there at peak times, something you cannot avoid if like us you like to take in a show or 2 when your there. the people just barge past on them long tunnels when you have to switch lines or are leaving at your station.

Dont get me wrong any one who knows me knows I dont walk slow myself and like to get to where i am going as quick as possible but in London its just manic, ok I admit with most of the people who are doing this its commuters wanting to get home at the end of the day but it just so gets on my wick.

But the city and all it has to offer i love except the London Eye i just cannot do it, its odd though I can go up Blackpool Tower no problems (cannot do the walk of faith and look down though), and I can go up in a light aircraft on a pleasure flight, but the Eye just could not do for some reason.

Cliff C

I agree! Whats up with these people? Walking along wired up to something and typing on their blackberries…and nobody speaks on the tube, everyone just reads their books or sits poker faced!

Yeah, there never is an option online. You’d need to book over the phone or in person I guess. Even then, I wouldn’t say it’d be in any way guaranteed. It is usually, as you say, pot luck!

I stayed in a TravelInn once, and due to lack of rooms we got upgraded to a family room with a balcony. But the balcony was locked, I guess because we’d paid normal price Very Happy

Does the Travelodge even have sea views? I kinda presumed all the rooms would be facing 90 degrees from the sea. Even if you could see down to the sea, isn’t the Sandcastle in your way?!

A flaw in PBB security

Author: BPBSecurity

Posted: Today - 05:52 am

where to start, where to start.

First off, sorry it’s taken so long for me to get the previously sent pm to direct me here. I actually quit the job before the end of the season and had a little holiday, so here we all are.

Secondly: I’d propose that the topic title should be changed to: "One of the many many flaws in BPB Security." Trust me when I say there are many.

The main thing to realise is this: the people employed on the security "team" aren’t trained professionals. No matter what they think (I include myself in this bracket) no-one receives any relevant training that would help avoid any serious terrorist attack to the park (not withstanding any so-called previous experience gained in other employment - such as the military etc).

To sum it up even more simply: Hardcore domestic / international terrorist, most likely with years of military training, not to mention the "specialist" training they’d get for such an attack, vs a seasonal, 6 per hour dis-interested security guard, whose main interest for being in said role is that it means they’re not a ride operator.

Please read the above paragraph again and again until you reach the right conclusion.

As far as the security scanners go (and if I’m right in my thinking, the young lady who posted earlier has a name that begins with "N"…..) can you imagine doing the same repetitive thing over and over and over and over and ov…. you get the idea. The thought of being stuck doing that terrifies me. Probably because I think it’d drive me mental, but who knows.

I can’t say I blame them for being lax, I know I couldn’t do it for an hour (on the occasions when I’ve hung about to help out) never mind anything up to 12. Again though, they’re not government trained experts, I doubt most (if any) of them cared about little more than what time they escaped, or how much they’d get paid at the end of the week.

The attitude of some members of the security team has always been a source of amusement for me. I don’t claim to have the most customer-orientated attitude, but then again to coin someone else’s phrase, that place is for the most part like a holding pen for the Jeremy Kyle show (present company of course, excluded).

Still, some of the ways I’ve seen situations handled are, for want of a more suitable derisory term - laughable. Still, let’s not get too personal, huh.

I’m not sure what else I can say right now (it IS ridiculously early in the morning, though) but I’d like to finish with this:

Adrian wrote:
Of course security matters, however the issue of security letting somebody they know through the barriers doesn’t. In order to stop a terrorist security at PBB would need a root and branch reform to have a cat in hells chance. In its current guise it is only just better than a chocolate fire guard.

This is the single post in this entire thread that sums it up perfectly.

The security features that are in place are all well and good when it comes to your average scrote from Barrow-In-Furness that’s had one shandy too many, your average local running a wristband scam or whatever, but in the event that the place was ever identified as a TRUE target (over several hundreds of better placed and more high-brow targets within this country) then you all need to realise that we’d be in serious trouble.

I’m taking questions now Very Happy

It was actually the other way round. The Tidal wave Started on South Park then ended up next to Fun House (It was there on the night of the fire, but was undamaged).
Back to the Flying Carpet, and can anyone remember how Geoffrey marked the opening?

i couldnt help laughing at some of the above comments, bad publicity indeed,
90 percent of that show was staged, as is most "reality" tv. if you look past the obvious it actually reflects pleasure beach in an extremly good light, which is pretty much what the brief was, according to the production notes. job done.
you do realise it was a scripted drama practically in every sense, well the scripts are real enough. as are the direction notes, the public for the most part are just that, the public

Well i’ve only ever done Blackpools Maze once and to be honest although a few times I did end up going round in circles, I didn’t find it too difficult … the whole point of a maze is for it to be a challenge and if it were too easy i’d seriously be having a whinge !! lol

However if i did know the maze well enough then if someone was looking desperate for help or like they were getting really annoyed chances are I would help them but only if they were obviously annoyed or distressed as I wouldn’t want to spoil their fun Smile

Great pics Colin!

We went on it a few years back, it was good fun. Doesn’t half let you see the amount of smog that permanently hangs over London though!

I really like London, but can only take it in small doses. Like Cliff, I just feel that there are altogether too many people charging about as if their lives depended on it. It’s stressful just watching them Smile

Hi Gary,
I can remember the "Rock O Bob" or something like that and can definately remember the Ben Hur ride, which I have to say was one of the most pointless rides Huss have ever made!! I worked in that area of the park for a little while and can also remember the Flying Carpet and Orbiter. I was at the Edinburgh Dungeon this Summer, and wonder if anyone’s been both there AND to the London Dungeon and is able to offer a comparison of these. I was considering visiting the London Dungeon in one of next year’s trips to London.

I notice from the photo above that there’s a courtroom scene in London (which there was also in Edinburgh - I have to admit I didn’t like that one but and wouldnt’ have liked to have been one of the people picked upon by the judge. I don’t like paying money to be humiliated!)

York I found to be quite chlostrophobic (sp ?), much darker and scarier … london is quite tame but good fun non the less and its definatley worth doing if you’ve not been before if simply to compare to the rest.
They have the court room scene at york too, the one in london was far better but was pretty humiliaiting for some people (one guy kept getting picked on and he didn’t seem too impressed)
The whole experience lasts about an hour and a half to Two hours …. and costs about twenty quid, however theres online discount and plenty of BOGOF vouchers available … so if you do go keep an eye out Smile
