Does anyone remember the PBB tv documentory series??/

A message to anybody who has the series

You can upload it to youtube and it does not break copyright law because you are not selling it. Plus the BBC upload their own stuff as well. Plus their are already clips of the documentary on there. And when you talk about copyright in regards to PBB when uploading videos of onride videos or offride videos this can be classed as copyright as well unless stated where it came from.

So if you do have it please upload it to youtube as I would love to see it. Just state that it belongs to PBB or BBC

a launched woodie would be awsome! lots of airtime for sure! on the downside i think the track would get worn very quickly so would get very rough.

Hi Cliff,

Yeah, I also used to have a week or two there every year when I was a nipper, how things have changed eh?! Looking back, I think we were really lucky, we got to see the park and town in a way that todays teenagers never will. Shame really Sad A lot of people comment on the atmosphere at BPB, if only they’d seen it when we did!

I agree with what you’re saying, and I hope that the current and proposed changes make things a bit busier. I love Blackpool as a town, not just the PB, so I really wish things weren’t so bleak. It does seem to be turning around slowly though, so fingers crossed!

All the best! Very Happy

Hi

When we went it was full board mind you dinner was more often than not just a sandwich. So it was allways PB afternoon for me on a Wednesday of the week there, Morning was mums day to look round the shops, and if there was time we also would pop into olympia, then after dinner right to the Tram and off to the PB we normaly stayed there from 1pm till 4pm, and even on the Wednesday the place was packed no wristbands or security to get passed then you just walked in and paid as you road. But yes you could hardly move and if it was like that now the guys here would not get anywhere near the ride count thay can now.

Its a shame the younger ones on the site will never get to expreiance that kind of athmosphre there, when i 1st went it was all small rides and the dogeums but when logflume arrived i did ride that alot, it was the only large ride me Dad would go on too.

Lets hope that with all that is being done in the resort it will once again attract the numbers it so deserves to. I like you love the town as well as the PB. With money still tight but some costs comming down lets hope 2009 attracts more visitors than ever to the town and to PB.

You can be selfish in the Maze, or…

Its great to lose your mates in it, then ile sneak into king cotton for a pint.
I wouldnt say its great atraction but its ok, if you had a big meal in the italian job which i normally do and feel really bloated. What gets me is that the waterfall in the middle works, but does not go over the tunnel like it use to, loved running through getting a good soaking. I use to try and push my mate under the water fall.
Infact the maze is too easy for me i can be out of it in 2 minuites.

The original woodie was withdrawn by the park, I think it was something to do with John Wardley being unhappy with the design from what i’ve heard. I agree that planning permission will be tough with a woodie though as clearly they’re much louder than a good old Steelie (especially when you can fill the track with Sand to dampen any noise) it would also have quite a lot to do with where the layout and route that the coaster would take.

Personally i’d prefer not to get a woodie at Alton especially not a launched one … I dont like the idea of it at all but thats just my own personal speculation and prefference for alton …. I’d like to see a steel beast of some description … something truly remarkable and new.

Whatever it is i’m sure it’s going to put Towers on the map …. what a great way to mark 30 years of being a theme park !!

I don’t know to be honest!! :-)

If my memory serves me right there were remote controlled tanks in there. Probably politically incorrect today, but some were British and some were German and you controlled them over some scenery like roads and bridges e.t.c. They were coin operated and were quite large.

A flaw in PBB security

1) Why did you leave?

2) If you think PBB security is that bad, why don’t you report it to someone right at the top?

3) Could you see Amanda personally? or is she impossible to get near, a bit like Robbie Williams - let’s say Wink

1) That’s more to do with me as a person. It was a stop gap whilst my other half was waiting to start work as a teacher. I have a degree in software engineering, and was starting another degree so needed time for that. I also discovered I had a serious knee injury which required me to not be trudging round for 12 - 16 hour stints.

2) I think it’s worse than you could possibly imagine, as do several other interested parties, not least friends of mine in the local police and trading standards (that’s another story for another day, though) - but again, you need to understand the hierarchy of the place before you understand just how unimportant the workers’ opinions are. So, the only thing it would have achieved at the time would have been certain unemployment, and now I’m out of there, it seems a moot point, and to put a selfish spin on it - someone else’s problem.

3) Not a chance. Her workforce don’t exist to her. They’re just a means to an end. I couldn’t possibly have enough time to tell you all the stories (some of which come from my first hand experience) of her attitude and lack of respect towards the people in that place making her the money she uses to laud over them. To put it bluntly, she really REALLY couldn’t care less about what one of her seasonal employees had to say about the area she considers herself the expert in.

Some of the above makes me sound almost bitter, reading back. It’s more a case of the fact the pleasure beach is the worst place I’ve ever had the misfortune to work at. The type of person I am means I’d do anything for a living - I don’t value myself as especially better than anyone else, but I think it’s fair to say that I think I can (and do) do better for myself, so I chose to.

I disagree with most of the practices there, I disagree with the way they treat their staff and I disagree with some things that went on I couldn’t possibly comment on with this being a public site no doubt read by those I refer to. But I can be a lot more pragmatic about it, and understand that it’s what works for them, and not for me.

Quote:
I wouldn’t expect PBB security officers to be trained in how to deal with terrorism.

Well, considering the day and age we live in, perhaps this should change. Should they have trained staff, with it being a high-profile public destination?

We have to look at economies of scale in order to find the answer. In other words, the question isn’t "should they" more the question of "Is it financially benefical for them to have trained staff in place, who would no doubt make the place safer, but increase costs".

(Assuming the training is paid for, or you’re paying an accredited professional more than the standard minimum wage to do a quite serious role. And where do the costs go? Do they take a hit on their profits? Do they increase admission to cover the cost?)

Does PBB value its customers safety to do the above? And does it consider it necessary to pay out the money to do so?

Make your own answer to that one Wink

i couldnt help laughing at some of the above comments, bad publicity indeed,
90 percent of that show was staged, as is most "reality" tv. if you look past the obvious it actually reflects pleasure beach in an extremly good light, which is pretty much what the brief was, according to the production notes. job done.
you do realise it was a scripted drama practically in every sense, well the scripts are real enough. as are the direction notes, the public for the most part are just that, the public

Well i’ve only ever done Blackpools Maze once and to be honest although a few times I did end up going round in circles, I didn’t find it too difficult … the whole point of a maze is for it to be a challenge and if it were too easy i’d seriously be having a whinge !! lol

However if i did know the maze well enough then if someone was looking desperate for help or like they were getting really annoyed chances are I would help them but only if they were obviously annoyed or distressed as I wouldn’t want to spoil their fun Smile

Great pics Colin!

We went on it a few years back, it was good fun. Doesn’t half let you see the amount of smog that permanently hangs over London though!

I really like London, but can only take it in small doses. Like Cliff, I just feel that there are altogether too many people charging about as if their lives depended on it. It’s stressful just watching them Smile

The flying carpet at pleasure beach was an original forerunner of the modern miami, the main difference being size and construction. the carpet was hinged on all four corners by four arms that created a similar movement to a miami, but in a vertical plane rather than the horizontal one of a miami, and they were anything but small, few photos exist of this machine, but i know of a few owned by an nfa contributer, ill give him a bell to see if they can be shown here.
the tidal wave had two homes within the pleasure beach. one where the fun house originally stood and then later opposite the revolution before being relocated to southport.

If I lived closer, wasn’t in a band and could afford to live on the wage then it’s something i’d consider,
Having worked as a mechanic in a local tenpin bowling alley for a number of years i’d love to be on the technical side of things and love customer relations too …. plus its the kind of enviroment I enjoy working in !!

Sure customers can be complete asses at times but you can have fun with them and very often the good far outweigh the bad Smile

Seriously though, i’m really excited about this meet, the winter weekends were some of my favourite meetups last year as the park was quiet enough to get in a good ride count without barely trying, they were full of randomness and the park had such a cool atmosphere … I hope it’s perfect camera weather too …. managed to get some cracking shots last year and it seems like ages since I photographed the PB !!

I am hoping for a similar day to the end of last season.

Chilly day but sunny, no rain and not much cloud.

I am fully booked up at the Lor Dean for the 29th, so I’ll be there both days on the final weekend. Dance

Hi Gary,
I can remember the "Rock O Bob" or something like that and can definately remember the Ben Hur ride, which I have to say was one of the most pointless rides Huss have ever made!! I worked in that area of the park for a little while and can also remember the Flying Carpet and Orbiter. Heres one for you, can anyone remember the Mississipee Showboat attraction that was also based in that area? I thought that was quite good at the time.
