A flaw in PBB security

Author: graham618

Welcometomyworld, I get what you’re saying, but (in the most genuine way possible) I don’t quite know what you’re hoping to achieve.

Highlighting one way in which you think they’re vulnerable is fair enough, but I’m sure we could all chip in ways in which we imagine security could be breached. And if we’ve thought of them, I imagine BPB have thought of them, and I’d bet the house that someone who wanted to do something malicious would have thought of them.

As for the comments about terrorism, I don’t think it’d make any difference how trained the staff were, they’re not really an anti-terrorist organisation. Airports are pretty well up to speed on security, but far from invulnerable. You can’t do much about it when someone drives a Jeep through the front door Smile

Alot of this topic talks a bout the decline of Blackpool.

Indeed things are not as they used to be.

But Blackpool Gazzet took the time(2 weeks ago) to speak to owners and managers of the Sandcastle, sealife, waxworks, tower, piers, zoo etc…..
All have enjoyed a good season with increased visitors in spite of poor weather.
It was only the Pleasure Beach that stated there numbers had fallen.

It’s good to see some attractions doing well, but I think they’re maybe the exceptions.

There’s millions less folk going to Blackpool now, and those that do go are staying for much shorter periods of time. Sadly Sad

For those of you interested by PBB’s maze did you know that the original maze was once situated next to the Derby Racers? A lady on the paybooth there was known to add an extra 5p to the entrance fee..By all accounts she had a price sign all of her own - showing 45p instead of the official 40p - that she would put up when she felt the time was right!

I have never worked at the park but you would be a-mazed by what information people are willing to share with this nurse from St Helens!! Smile

Also this from my website dating back 5 years: The Adrian Fisher Interview - He designed the Chinese Puzzle Maze. It’s a brief one page interview which helped get my website launched back then.

Does anyone remember the PBB tv documentory series??/

A message to anybody who has the series

You can upload it to youtube and it does not break copyright law because you are not selling it. Plus the BBC upload their own stuff as well. Plus their are already clips of the documentary on there. And when you talk about copyright in regards to PBB when uploading videos of onride videos or offride videos this can be classed as copyright as well unless stated where it came from.

So if you do have it please upload it to youtube as I would love to see it. Just state that it belongs to PBB or BBC

Incorrect.
The BBC you tube channel came about by the BBC having to defend their legal right to maintain copyright, the only reason they upload to that site is to stem the increasing tide of pirated material that is held under their copyright.
its not ok to upload any copyrighted material (in this case BBC output) anyone found doing so will soon find themselves on the recieving end of the BBC legal department. as well as having the offending material removed (eventually)
you may well argue that much BBC content remains unchallenged on youtube, this isnt being ignored, and prosecutions are being sought (which is a lot harder after the offending material is removed)
Adding its "copyrighted to the BBC" without proper clearance and excessive royalty payments paid in advance, is just as illegal as you stealing a car

a launched woodie would be awsome! lots of airtime for sure! on the downside i think the track would get worn very quickly so would get very rough.

The original woodie was withdrawn by the park, I think it was something to do with John Wardley being unhappy with the design from what i’ve heard. I agree that planning permission will be tough with a woodie though as clearly they’re much louder than a good old Steelie (especially when you can fill the track with Sand to dampen any noise) it would also have quite a lot to do with where the layout and route that the coaster would take.

Personally i’d prefer not to get a woodie at Alton especially not a launched one … I dont like the idea of it at all but thats just my own personal speculation and prefference for alton …. I’d like to see a steel beast of some description … something truly remarkable and new.

Whatever it is i’m sure it’s going to put Towers on the map …. what a great way to mark 30 years of being a theme park !!

Hi

Me and my other half also love London her a little more than me, the only thing I dont like about London is the pace especally on the tube, more so if your on there at peak times, something you cannot avoid if like us you like to take in a show or 2 when your there. the people just barge past on them long tunnels when you have to switch lines or are leaving at your station.

Dont get me wrong any one who knows me knows I dont walk slow myself and like to get to where i am going as quick as possible but in London its just manic, ok I admit with most of the people who are doing this its commuters wanting to get home at the end of the day but it just so gets on my wick.

But the city and all it has to offer i love except the London Eye i just cannot do it, its odd though I can go up Blackpool Tower no problems (cannot do the walk of faith and look down though), and I can go up in a light aircraft on a pleasure flight, but the Eye just could not do for some reason.

Cliff C

I agree! Whats up with these people? Walking along wired up to something and typing on their blackberries…and nobody speaks on the tube, everyone just reads their books or sits poker faced!

Another place that you may want to check out and which Alaska Airlines gold coast travel may be

November 19th, 2008

Another place that you may want to check out and which Alaska Airlines gold coast travel may be able to bring you to is Six Mile Creek that was also a very lucrative spot for gold mining in the good old days and which today is known for its excellent rapids that wind through canyons till they reach Turnagain Arm, which was given its name by the early prospectors and is really a waterway that however is not a creek and it is an excellent place for rafting as well.

A flaw in PBB security

welcometomyworld wrote:
1) Why did you leave?

2) If you think PBB security is that bad, why don’t you report it to someone right at the top?

3) Could you see Amanda personally? or is she impossible to get near, a bit like Robbie Williams - let’s say Wink

1) That’s more to do with me as a person. It was a stop gap whilst my other half was waiting to start work as a teacher. I have a degree in software engineering, and was starting another degree so needed time for that. I also discovered I had a serious knee injury which required me to not be trudging round for 12 - 16 hour stints.

2) I think it’s worse than you could possibly imagine, as do several other interested parties, not least friends of mine in the local police and trading standards (that’s another story for another day, though) - but again, you need to understand the hierarchy of the place before you understand just how unimportant the workers’ opinions are. So, the only thing it would have achieved at the time would have been certain unemployment, and now I’m out of there, it seems a moot point, and to put a selfish spin on it - someone else’s problem.

3) Not a chance. Her workforce don’t exist to her. They’re just a means to an end. I couldn’t possibly have enough time to tell you all the stories (some of which come from my first hand experience) of her attitude and lack of respect towards the people in that place making her the money she uses to laud over them. To put it bluntly, she really REALLY couldn’t care less about what one of her seasonal employees had to say about the area she considers herself the expert in.

Some of the above makes me sound almost bitter, reading back. It’s more a case of the fact the pleasure beach is the worst place I’ve ever had the misfortune to work at. The type of person I am means I’d do anything for a living - I don’t value myself as especially better than anyone else, but I think it’s fair to say that I think I can (and do) do better for myself, so I chose to.

I disagree with most of the practices there, I disagree with the way they treat their staff and I disagree with some things that went on I couldn’t possibly comment on with this being a public site no doubt read by those I refer to. But I can be a lot more pragmatic about it, and understand that it’s what works for them, and not for me.

Quote:
I wouldn’t expect PBB security officers to be trained in how to deal with terrorism.

Well, considering the day and age we live in, perhaps this should change. Should they have trained staff, with it being a high-profile public destination?

We have to look at economies of scale in order to find the answer. In other words, the question isn’t "should they" more the question of "Is it financially benefical for them to have trained staff in place, who would no doubt make the place safer, but increase costs".

(Assuming the training is paid for, or you’re paying an accredited professional more than the standard minimum wage to do a quite serious role. And where do the costs go? Do they take a hit on their profits? Do they increase admission to cover the cost?)

Does PBB value its customers safety to do the above? And does it consider it necessary to pay out the money to do so?

Make your own answer to that one Wink

This COULD be a prank on behalf of PBB - no matter how big a prank it could be or not is irrelivent, the fact that a joke was played by you, and you found it funny……… but because someone else is / could be playing a joke, its not tolerated by you. All im saying is practice what you preach.

Quote:
Lastly, who said I was ‘peeved’? I can remember a few weeks ago saying something along the lines off I’ll take my hat off to PBB if it is a joke, they pulled it off very well

Once again, I ask what gives you the impression I cant tolerate a joke? A joke is only a joke as long as its funny. To see little kids crying about one of there favuorite rides closing, (infact involving the public directly it wrong IMO) if its ment for us, start a few rumours, sign up and post a few dodgy messages, but dont send the final train around the way they did on that night.

Good grief, your dealing with the lad here who got a large bucket of water tipped over him on the final day of the Log Flume, and was soaked with a hoze pipe on the Vikingar’s final day, so dont suggest I cant take a joke, especially when you dont even know me. Ask anyone who’s spend a few hours with me at PBB, they’ll tell you I’m always up for a laugh and a joke, regardless of the fact I might well be the target of the joke!

Your Review Of The 2008 Park Season!

I am going to do a big report in December, but some of my favourite memories;

Pleasure Beach opening day, record BPB Guide turnout!

Opening day photo with JR.

Start of South Beach.

Photos with cast of SBM throughout the season.

James & Dane on PMBO for the first ever time.

Random sayings, like;

1. Length
2. Portion
3. Yarking
4. Tonking it down
5. Paddy
6. Get them on the books!
7. The 12am and 2am rule!

Erm, I am sure there is plenty more and they’ll be mentioned in the big review. Some of them you may not understand, just come to a BPB Guide meet and you’ll soon know lol. Laughing

My big end of season review will be posted once the season has totally finished.

Author: FallenAbyss

I broke down before the final drop on Valhalla with a few of the guiders earlier in the year, we were on the actual corner before the drop as another boat was in front of us, we waited for ages, as I believe we were one of the last boats to be evacuated and water was coming over the sides we actually had to push the boat upright to stop it.

Eventually we were rescued and it’s quite tricky to actually get out of the boats and onto the walkways, we walked through a couple of scenes and then out down some stairs to safety where we were told we could reride without queing to get twice as wet …. a pretty cool evac if you ask me but would be a bugger if you had really short legs !! lol
