For those of you interested by PBB’s maze did you know that the original maze was once situated next to the Derby Racers? A lady on the paybooth there was known to add an extra 5p to the entrance fee..By all accounts she had a price sign all of her own - showing 45p instead of the official 40p - that she would put up when she felt the time was right!

I have never worked at the park but you would be a-mazed by what information people are willing to share with this nurse from St Helens!! Smile

Does anyone remember the PBB tv documentory series??/

A message to anybody who has the series

You can upload it to youtube and it does not break copyright law because you are not selling it. Plus the BBC upload their own stuff as well. Plus their are already clips of the documentary on there. And when you talk about copyright in regards to PBB when uploading videos of onride videos or offride videos this can be classed as copyright as well unless stated where it came from.

So if you do have it please upload it to youtube as I would love to see it. Just state that it belongs to PBB or BBC

Incorrect.
The BBC you tube channel came about by the BBC having to defend their legal right to maintain copyright, the only reason they upload to that site is to stem the increasing tide of pirated material that is held under their copyright.
its not ok to upload any copyrighted material (in this case BBC output) anyone found doing so will soon find themselves on the recieving end of the BBC legal department. as well as having the offending material removed (eventually)
you may well argue that much BBC content remains unchallenged on youtube, this isnt being ignored, and prosecutions are being sought (which is a lot harder after the offending material is removed)
Adding its "copyrighted to the BBC" without proper clearance and excessive royalty payments paid in advance, is just as illegal as you stealing a car

The original woodie was withdrawn by the park, I think it was something to do with John Wardley being unhappy with the design from what i’ve heard. I agree that planning permission will be tough with a woodie though as clearly they’re much louder than a good old Steelie (especially when you can fill the track with Sand to dampen any noise) it would also have quite a lot to do with where the layout and route that the coaster would take.

Personally i’d prefer not to get a woodie at Alton especially not a launched one … I dont like the idea of it at all but thats just my own personal speculation and prefference for alton …. I’d like to see a steel beast of some description … something truly remarkable and new.

Whatever it is i’m sure it’s going to put Towers on the map …. what a great way to mark 30 years of being a theme park !!

If my memory serves me right there were remote controlled tanks in there. Probably politically incorrect today, but some were British and some were German and you controlled them over some scenery like roads and bridges e.t.c. They were coin operated and were quite large.

Hi

Me and my other half also love London her a little more than me, the only thing I dont like about London is the pace especally on the tube, more so if your on there at peak times, something you cannot avoid if like us you like to take in a show or 2 when your there. the people just barge past on them long tunnels when you have to switch lines or are leaving at your station.

Dont get me wrong any one who knows me knows I dont walk slow myself and like to get to where i am going as quick as possible but in London its just manic, ok I admit with most of the people who are doing this its commuters wanting to get home at the end of the day but it just so gets on my wick.

But the city and all it has to offer i love except the London Eye i just cannot do it, its odd though I can go up Blackpool Tower no problems (cannot do the walk of faith and look down though), and I can go up in a light aircraft on a pleasure flight, but the Eye just could not do for some reason.

Cliff C

I agree! Whats up with these people? Walking along wired up to something and typing on their blackberries…and nobody speaks on the tube, everyone just reads their books or sits poker faced!

Welcometomyworld, I get what you’re saying, but (in the most genuine way possible) I don’t quite know what you’re hoping to achieve.

Highlighting one way in which you think they’re vulnerable is fair enough, but I’m sure we could all chip in ways in which we imagine security could be breached. And if we’ve thought of them, I imagine BPB have thought of them, and I’d bet the house that someone who wanted to do something malicious would have thought of them.

As for the comments about terrorism, I don’t think it’d make any difference how trained the staff were, they’re not really an anti-terrorist organisation. Airports are pretty well up to speed on security, but far from invulnerable. You can’t do much about it when someone drives a Jeep through the front door Smile

the thing is that actully having security guards and scanners is enough to detier most people evan if there there or not you dont say alton has lack of security or LWV or drayton mannor so why are you complaining about the pleasure beaches which is way more obvious than any other park mainly to make familys feel safe therefore they will come back all about image

I have only visited Alton Towers 3 times, Drayton Manor 1 time and it was too long ago for me to remember whether they had security on the entrance or not. If it is true that security is bad at those two parks, then I agree it should be looked into. But I’m a frequent visitor to PBB and that is the park I care a lot about and because of that I started this thread.

You say that the PBB has security guards and a scanner (or should I say) 3 scanners on the entrances to the park. Well…be that as it may, any improvements which can be made, should be made, just to air on the side of caution.

The points I’ve made within this thread certainly highlight one flaw.

Having made a few phone calls and got a few answers to emails, it turned up the following.
A number of (unspecified) D3 VT copies were made after transmission, not PAL broadcast quality for redistribution for an overseas market, most probably NTSC transfers (unverified) The BBC archive wiped the original transmission tapes in june 2005, after it was considered no longer marketable, (these tapes then went on to be used for additional BBC output, most probably Eastenders at that time)(unverified but probably correct, many shows were wiped for additional EE output)
it has been repeated in the UK a total of 13 times on various networks, since its original broadcast 1998 to 2007, which leads to the assumption that a few if not all were the D3 copies, finding their way into cable and satelite programming ( 2 times incomplete, as a five episode run, with new commentary and new titles)(unverified channel)
A spanish version of the dub is held in the archive as is the original along with the 16mm archive material and additional 4672′ of VT ( PAL broadcast quality) footage which was deemed unsuitable for broadcast. (in other words out takes and cutting room floor filler material)

Hi Gary,

Also just a quickie for Ash, remember when you played that prank posting a link on here for that site where it was stating "valhalla is being removed" ? Can you tell me the difference between that, and the ride ops of Rollercoaster playing a prank? None whatsoever. Of which I cant understand why you would be peeved at the ride ops when your as bad yourself !!

Hang on a minute, my prank was aimed at a handfull of people, some fell for it, others didn’t. It was ment to be contianed on here (otherwise I’d of copied it to other forums) however others decided to drag it elsewhere on the net before I had chance to lock it, which I did stright away, after admitting it was a joke.

You’ll also notice that forums with which I have membership, I claimed responsiblity for it and admitted it was a joke.

As I have said (what seems to be several thousand times now) it was not the op’s of RollerCoaster who played this ‘prank’ it was almost every op who I spoke to!

Further more, CPB held a ’symbolic’ ERT on the RollerCoaster….and thr chairman of the club (who gets to find out the facts, and is very good at keeping his trap shut when he is told to) was spotted on the Revolution staircase taking several photo’s of the ride during the last hour of the park’s operation. That could be coinsidence, but for the ride op’s to take things to the extent of having the entire train load believe they are/were its last ever riders (not to mention asking for pictures to be taken and posted on the net) is going a bit far, and to tell little kids the news they’ve missed the last ever ride (and have them in tears) is a little bit more than a prank played between a few mates on the internet, wouldn’t you say?

Lastly, who said I was ‘peeved’? I can remember a few weeks ago saying something along the lines off I’ll take my hat off to PBB if it is a joke, they pulled it off very well (I cant be bothered looking for the quote, its out there, look for it if you have nothing better to do!) I also said I would love to be proved wrong about this, so come on then Scott, PROVE ME WRONG, I want you to!

The worst ride to break down on.

Author: FallenAbyss

Posted: Today - 12:12 am

I broke down before the final drop on Valhalla with a few of the guiders earlier in the year, we were on the actual corner before the drop as another boat was in front of us, we waited for ages, as I believe we were one of the last boats to be evacuated and water was coming over the sides we actually had to push the boat upright to stop it.

Eventually we were rescued and it’s quite tricky to actually get out of the boats and onto the walkways, we walked through a couple of scenes and then out down some stairs to safety where we were told we could reride without queing to get twice as wet …. a pretty cool evac if you ask me but would be a bugger if you had really short legs !! lol

Well I still think it’s a shame it wont be open for winter weekends however needs must, and it’s probably better that they spend the extra time over this winter to hopefully restore normal operation as 2008 has been a pretty poor year for it.
I agree with ash … it’s certainly a shadow of its former self at the moment, however I really cant see them fixing it to run how it used to …. but a more reliable ride would certainly be an improvement !!
